The story
There are moments in nature when the familiar becomes magical.
A still body of water reflects the sky so perfectly that it becomes impossible to tell where one ends and the other begins. Floating lotus flowers appear suspended between worlds, rooted in water yet reaching toward light.
In Where the Sky Learned to Bloom, Sivabalan captures this fleeting transformation. The pond becomes a meeting place of reflections and reality, where colour, light, and movement create an ever-changing visual symphony.
The lotus, long associated with beauty, renewal, and spiritual growth, emerges throughout the composition like scattered notes in a melody. Each blossom catches the eye before leading it deeper into the landscape. The viewer is invited to slow down, to wander through the reflections, and to experience the quiet wonder that inspired the artist.
Rather than depicting a specific moment, the painting captures a feeling, the sense of standing before nature and realising that beauty often exists in places we pass every day without noticing.
Supplied with a serialised Ivory & Ink certificate of authenticity and framed in the UK by a Guild Certified framer.
In Where the Sky Learned to Bloom, water becomes a mirror and the landscape becomes a dream. A vibrant expanse of lotus flowers stretches across the canvas, their vivid pink blossoms rising above emerald lily pads and pools of brilliant blue reflection. The boundary between earth, water, and sky dissolves, creating a scene that feels both real and imagined.
Sivabalan's masterful use of colour transforms an everyday wetland into a celebration of light and life. The shimmering reflections draw the viewer deep into the painting, while the scattered lotus blooms create a rhythm that flows naturally across the composition. Rich textures and luminous contrasts highlight the vitality of the landscape, revealing nature in a moment of perfect harmony.
The work radiates a sense of tranquillity and abundance, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in a world where stillness and beauty coexist.
