Artist Profile: Sivabalan

Sivabalan is a Tamil Nadu-based painter whose luminous works capture the pulse of rural South Indian life — its festivals, its people, and its quietly disappearing rhythms.

Born and raised in Kumbakonam, a historic temple town in the Cauvery delta, Sivabalan holds a Master's degree in Fine Arts from the Government College of Fine Arts. His paintings — rendered in watercolour and acrylic — are immediately recognisable for their bold, saturated colour and the warmth with which they depict everyday scenes: village processions, women at the well, children playing, caparisoned elephants on dusty roads.

His work sits at an intriguing intersection: deeply rooted in South Indian culture, yet carrying a universal visual appeal that has found collectors across India, Singapore, the United States, and Europe. He has exhibited at the Affordable Art Fair Singapore, and at galleries in Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, San Francisco, and New York.

Sivabalan is solely represented by Ivory & Ink Fine Art in the UK, Europe and USA.

Artwork price range: £900 – £6,000
